All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Galashiels, drivers must be a minimum of 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle category, with potential extra fees for those under 25. A valid driving licence suitable for the chosen vehicle, held for the required duration stated in the Rental Agreement, is necessary. Renters must also present valid identification and proof of their current address. Payment information and a security deposit are required. Any additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement must be met.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Galashiels office. A deposit may be needed to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection in Galashiels, a thorough inspection is required to identify any pre-existing damage, which must be reported immediately. A vehicle condition report will be generated and signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same state as it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as it had at pickup; refueling fees will apply if returned with less fuel. Late returns may lead to extra charges, so please contact us as soon as possible if a delay is anticipated. You remain liable for damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless you have purchased extra insurance. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to appear may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle may not be used for any illegal activities. This includes racing, off-roading, or any activities that pose risks. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes and within the specified passenger and weight limits. Operating outside the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Limitation of Responsibility
To the fullest extent allowed by law in Scotland, Car Hire Galashiels will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may arise from your use of our services. Our overall liability for any claim will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to claims related to death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
